Eastern Concrete are a site-mixed concrete business based in Norfolk. With a range of clients from Local Authorities, to Civil Engineers, to Rail Contractors, and many more, they operate to a high standard throughout the region.
Looking for a weighing system to install to their fleet of 30 volumetric and ready-mix concrete trucks, it was essential for Eastern Concrete to find a supplier that could provide both accurate and reliable data instantaneously, but also offer a solution that could enhance onsite safety. Eventually, Eastern Concrete decided upon the APOLLO LIVE system from Vehicle Weighing Solutions.
The smart weighing solution, APOLLO LIVE, is a high specification axle and gross vehicle weighbridge that provides real-time weight data and features ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) identification for security barrier control.
As the vehicle rolls over the axle bridge, ANPR and weight data, including individual and gross axle weights, are simultaneously captured and sent to the VWS Live® secure portal, where the information can be viewed in a real-time environment. Using ANPR data, the system can reliably identify vehicles as they approach the barrier and control access via the portal, plus record live weight data. The security barrier control element enhances duty of care and safety measures by recording vehicle movements in and out of the gate, giving increased visibility of onsite personnel.
The portal has a customisable dashboard so users can see the precise data they need at the touch of a button, and the addition of an API (Application Programming Interface) means that the information can be made accessible to third party applications.
Trevor Evans, VWS Operations Director said: “Previously vehicle operators had to rely on manual or traditional methods, such as downloading the weight data to a memory card, but this system doesn’t require any physical retrieval of data. It allows customers to make immediate changes to overloaded vehicles to ensure they comply with safety legislation and the ANPR identification means they can ensure that only approved vehicles are granted access on-site.”
“The APOLLO LIVE system is a really useful addition to our operations. Not only does it provide very accurate and immediate weight data, we are also using it to control and monitor who comes in and who goes out of our premises".
By recording vehicle movements in and out of premises, businesses are able to better account for on-site personnel, and therefore enhance their duty of care and safety procedures. The live weighing data enables companies to make immediate changes to overloaded vehicles to ensure they comply with safety legislation.
Stowmarket-based Eastern Concrete has been using the APOLLO LIVE system with great success and has really noticed the multiple benefits that it has continuously provided the business with.
“The APOLLO LIVE system is a really useful addition to our operations. Not only does it provide very accurate and immediate weight data, we are also using it to control and monitor who comes in and who goes out of our premises. We have a list of approved registration plates and the ANPR system automatically checks if vehicles entering site are on that list. If they aren’t on the list the security barrier doesn’t automatically open and we can check before allowing them in.” – Dan Lummis, Eastern Concrete Transport & Maintenance Manager.
“APOLLO LIVE is an extremely efficient tool for companies, and we are very glad to see that it has made such a positive impact on business at Eastern Concrete.” – Trevor Evans.
